Tell us about your journey with the SPAR Women’s Challenge and how you got involved with the race?

This is my fourth year with Spar Women’s Challenge. I am proud to be an Ambassador, MC and Host of several communication campaigns associated with the race, as well as the grand event itself. I was asked to join the ranks of well known influencers in South Africa who were associated with helping to change people’s lives through their talents and gifts.

Spar contacted me through my work as WarriorRic with Warrior Races. They saw an opportunity to apply my brand of inspiration and motivation that had attracted so many in Obstacle Course Racing (OCR), and sought to leverage the same type of human connection to help transform the lives of women interested in running the most beautiful road race in South Africa.

The theme of this year’s SPAR Women’s Challenge race is #YesIAm. Drawing from your personal life - what does this mean to you?

#YesIAm for me is a reminder to affirm that I am enough, that I am GREAT because God is GREAT and that whenever doubt creeps into my head, to go back and repeat that I am GREAT and why!

Born in the USA, your life has taken many twists and turns due to your entrepreneurial nature. You are an academic (with a degree in International Relations), model, actor, political spokesperson and an underminable list of other things! We know you best as a motivational speaker, radio personality, brand specialist, facilitator, MC – you are so multi-talented! How do you manage to wear all these hats? What inspires you to branch out and explore all these different jobs? What is your personal message to women to stay motivated and focused on their goals?

As a motivational speaker and life coach, I have found many different platforms and audiences to support transformation in people and organisations. Although I love to share motivational talks, the most effective means of transformation is to go beyond the once off boost, and delve deeper through interactive workshops and sharing principles and tools that are relevant to the challenges expressed by clients.

Because of my background as an academic, performance artist and MC, I am able to bring a plethora of theoretical and practical skills, combined with a unique and relevant delivery, that avoids archaic lecturing styles that are boring, while making audiences feel safe and secure with change.

Who in your life has inspired you to say ‘Yes I Am’ - thus to be authentically you?

There are many people who have inspired me. One person in particular that is currently helping me with personal mastery and to live my best life is Robin Sharma. His book entitled “The 5am Club” is hard to put down. I plan on reading this one more than once, and I have already begun to listen to his podcasts.

Why is it important for us to enable others to say: ‘Yes I Am’? Is this something that you do in your everyday life?

I have always tried to motivate people by helping to build their confidence. I don’t work on my own personal transformation to become a lone master. Rather, I am enjoying engaging others to share notes on what works and to share the success. The world need more positive influencers than ever. Leaders create leaders, so I am eager to learn, share and grow as often as possible to build more leaders and to make the world a better place.

Will you attend race day on 3 August?

I will definitely attend the race on the 3rd of August. There’s no better way to start a race than to remind 26,000 women that they have made the right choice to sign up, show up and run. I am honoured to be at the start of the 5km again to remind runners to be a Warrior and to be Brave!

Kindly give us some reasons / motivations to inspire people to join in on race day.

It’s more fun to participate than to just watch.

Meaningful goals should be tough. Otherwise, the reward would be less than great. If you feel anxious and a bit freaked out about the race, then know it will be worth it!
